Historien om restaurant MOTA

- Fra Nykøbing Sjællands sindssygehospital til Odsherreds Michelinrestaurant

Restaurant MOTA opened in November 2021 in beautiful cultural-historical buildings from 1915, which were previously part of Nykøbing Sjællands Psychiatric Hospital. The buildings are part of the Grønnegård complex in Annebergparken and the premises in which restaurant MOTA is housed were originally built as a village hall and theatre for the mental hospital. Until 2015, when the hospital closed, the building served as a canteen for the employees of the hospital.

MOTA is Latin American and slang for cannabis; something that Claus Henriksen was one of the first in Denmark to adopt in his cooking in collaboration with local farmer Søren Wiuff. 'Mota Henriksen' thus also became an alias for Claus, as there was great interest in him and his gastronomic talents from the press and food enthusiasts. The intention was to use the alias as both a cover name and gimmick but he was soon revealed - and since then the name has persisted.
